Social participation support means having a support worker alongside you to get out into your community: local events, group activities, sport, walks, cafes or trying something new. It is part of our Psychosocial Support service. Under the NDIS it is usually funded from Core supports, in the category the NDIA calls “Assistance with social and community participation”. We work with self-managed and plan-managed participants and private clients across Sydney’s inner, southern and eastern suburbs.
Our support workers take the time to understand what you genuinely want from your social life and work alongside you to make it happen. Because real connection is built through shared experiences, not scheduled activities.
Social participation support often helps people living with anxiety, depression, schizophrenia or autism to get out and stay connected. See all the conditions we support.
We understand that social participation looks different for everyone. Some people want to build confidence in social settings, others want to explore new interests or simply have someone to do things with. Whatever your goals, we build our support around what matters to you.
Social participation support is not about filling a schedule. It is about helping you build genuine connections, discover what you enjoy, and feel more at ease in the world around you. Our qualified support workers understand the social and emotional side of participation, and they are with you every step of the way.
Social participation support works best when it is built around what you genuinely enjoy. We take the time to understand your interests, comfort level, and social goals. Then we find activities and experiences that feel like a natural part of your life, not a program you have been enrolled in.
Whether you want to try something new, reconnect with your community, or simply have someone to spend time with, we are here for it. Our support workers take a genuine interest in who you are and what you enjoy, and they show up consistently so you can build real trust over time.
We help people reconnect with their communities across the inner, southern and eastern suburbs of Sydney from our base in Marrickville. Each area page lists the suburbs we cover and local places support can take you, from pools and libraries to walks and community centres. See all our service areas, or choose yours:
Social participation support involves having a support worker go with you to social activities, community events and everyday outings that help you feel more connected and engaged. This could include visiting a cafe, attending a local event, joining a group activity, going for a walk, or exploring a new interest. It can be whatever is meaningful to you.
Absolutely. Social participation support is entirely led by your interests and goals. Before we begin, we take the time to understand what you enjoy, what you would like to try, and where you feel most comfortable. There is no set program. The activities are built around you.
They are closely related and often overlap. Social participation focuses specifically on building social connections, confidence, and engagement with the community. Community access is a broader term that can include practical tasks like attending appointments or running errands. In practice, our support workers can assist with both depending on what your plan includes.
Yes. This kind of support can help. Every one of our support workers holds a university degree in psychology or a related discipline and has completed mental health and trauma-informed training. They understand how hard social situations can feel. We move at your pace and build your confidence gradually, without pressure.
No. While many of our participants are NDIS-funded, social participation support is available to anyone who would benefit from it. If you are self-funded or accessing support through another arrangement, we are happy to discuss your options and find a way to work together. Get in touch and we can talk through what is available to you.
It is usually funded from the Core Supports budget in your NDIS plan, under the support category the NDIA calls “Assistance with social and community participation”. If you are not sure what your plan covers, we are happy to talk it through with you or your support coordinator.
